Four Seasons@Kent Island Before BPW Tomorrow

Dear Friends,

As you may know, the massive 1100 unit Four Seasons project on Kent Island is coming up for review at the Maryland Board of Public Works tomorrow, Wednesday, November 18th. The Board is composed of Governor Hogan, Comptroller Franchot and Treasurer Kopp.

I don't have to tell you what 1,100 more houses on Kent Island will do. At issue is whether the Board should grant a wetlands license for the project, which would allow stormwater discharge, etc., into wetlands of the State.

As things now stand, Governor Hogan and his developer friends support the project. Comptroller Franchot has always opposed Four Seasons. Inexplicably however, Treasurer Kopp is leaning towards supporting Four Seasons, and favors granting the wetlands license application, in spite of the fact that the Wetlands Administrator himself has revealed, "...undesirable stormwater elements - pathogens, excess nutrients, metals, pesticides, fertilizers, oil, grease - will be transported through the stormwater system and much of it will convey to State tidal wetlands." What does this mean? This means all of that nasty stuff listed above will actually reach the waters of the Chester River and Chesapeake Bay!

Treasurer Kopp should not side with Governor Hogan and his developer friends in support of the largest subdivsion in Maryland Critical Area history -- a project entirely located within the Critical area, and project that could be incredibly destructive to Kent Island and the waters of the State.

Worse, the developer, K.Hovnanian, has a long history of Clean Water Act violations coming from its construction sites, many located in Maryland.

Please call or email Treasurer Kopp today and urge her to stand up for Maryland's environment by voting NO on the Four Seasons Wetlands License application. Tell her that too much time has been invested into Chester River and Chesapeake Bay protection to allow a developer, especially one with a sordid record as K.Hovnanian, to be allowed to move forward with their destructive ways

Please contact Treasurer Kopp today!
